The big September Apple event is over and the new iPhones have been announced, which usually means a little quiet. Not this year. While the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max shipped last month, the star of the show, the iPhone Duo, hasn’t even gone up for pre-order yet.
But that’s not all—there’s a good chance we’re going to see some other new hardware, too. Plus, we’ve got the OS 27.2 updates in testing now with a big update to the Health app, and those will probably be released in October as well. Plus the Matchbox movie premieres! Here’s everything that’s coming in October:
We already know Apple has one monster release coming this month, but several other new products could be on the way as well:
iPhone Duo: Pre-orders for Apple’s first folding phone, the iPhone Duo, begin on October 16 and the phone officially becomes available on October 23. Obviously that is going to be the big release of the month, and you can read a lot more about the iPhone Duo in our guide. If you want one, you’ll want to pre-order right when it goes on sale at 8am ET, because we expect stock will be very constrained throughout the rest of this year.
Smart home hub: Leading this month’s rumors is a totally new device we’ve been hearing about for years: a home hub many have taken to calling “HomePad.” It’s a simplified tablet with a roughly 6-inch display that runs a new operating system combining the Standby mode of iPhone, the widgets of Apple Watch, and some of the media capabilities of Apple TV, but without its own app store. It will reportedly control your smart home devices, make FaceTime calls, and recognize faces to automatically adjust to each individual’s preferences. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the most reliable Apple leaker around, says the device is set to launch on October 13.
HomePod mini 2: Along with the hub, there are persistent rumors of other smart home devices ready to go on sale in October, including a new HomePod mini. The HomePod mini 2 should have a new processor that supports Siri AI, improved networking, and improved audio, but visually resemble the current model, which hasn’t been updated since its 2020 debut. It will likely have a new lineup of colors.
Apple TV 4K (4th gen): The new Apple TV 4K is getting the same treatment: better networking and a faster chip for Siri AI, but otherwise the same as the current models. Some say that the remote might support Find My, with a tiny speaker to make a chime when lost.
iPad mini: Several rumors also claim the next iPad mini is nearly ready for release, with an A20 Pro, OLED display, and landscape-oriented FaceTime camera. It would be a big upgrade, and the most recent rumors say it will launch by the end of October.
M6 MacBook Pro: The M6 has debuted in the Mac mini, and it has been a year since the M5 MacBook Pro, so we now expect a MacBook Pro with M6 to come as early as October. It should be a chip update with the same design.
Touchscreen MacBook Pro: Separate from the regular M6 MacBook Pro, there’s a redesigned MacBook Pro allegedly in the works with an OLED display and a touchscreen. Multiple reports have said it could be ready for release this fall with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, but chip shortages could also push it into next year.
We just got Apple’s biggest yearly software update in ages with last month’s OS 27 launches with the new Siri AI, but there’s a big change coming to it soon.
While the iOS 27.1 release is centered around iPhone Duo and will likely only ship with that device, the OS 27.2 updates — coming for all devices — is already in beta testing and should be widely released in the month of October. The big update for 27.2 is the overhauled Health app, which changes the design to put AI-powered health analysis up front, with collected data on a later tab. With an Apple Watch Series 12 or Ultra 4 and watchOS 27.2, you’ll also get the new Readiness feature.
Here are the shows, series, and movies we expect to release on Apple TV+ in TK. If you want to know what’s coming later, check our full guide to upcoming Apple TV+ content.
